Summer in New York City got off to a truly dazzling start at the Garment District’s trendy Yotel, as curator Catherine Schuller and producer Errickson Wilcox presented Runway The Real Way, hosted by Nyeelah Lewis, featuring iconic vocalist/actress Ms. Melba Moore and celebrity designer/stylist Patricia Freeman, whose Beautiful U collection was showcased on the catwalk. This diverse, inclusive display of plus-size fashions was themed as a delightful Saturday brunch, complete with buffet, cocktails, music from DJ Mr. Marcus, and delectable “Chocolate Sexx” desserts, which were fine liqueur, enrobed in gourmet chocolate ‘shots’ by Nikki Lukes. Ms. Moore enthralled the audience with her boundless energy and silky, unforgettable voice, as Ms. Freeman’s designs premiered on the runway. Walking for Beautiful U were Curvy Chick Fitness CEO and celebrity fitness instructor Charity Lynette,Annoula Dritsas, Brittany Hudson, Michele Hilton, Ashley Hilton, Elizabeth Reyes, Daly Contreras, Yum Yum, ‘The Glamazons’ Tina Jensens, and Tjameika Wilson, all of whom made Ms. Freeman’s unique, eye-catching creations shine like the summer sun. The audience on hand was also treated to a fabulous runway walk by Ms. Camay, Host of the Ms. Camay Show, for one of the other great designs at this amazing event. Special thanks to Plus Model/Brand Ambassador Nicole Flores for bringing everyone together, Owner of Full Blossom Magazine Mello Andrews and Mr. Max “Divabetic” Szadek for lending your support and attendance.
Ms. Freeman, current stylist for Ms. Moore is also looking forward to being a major presence at Baltimore Fashion week in August. Her Beautiful U collection, part of her Denim Blu label, raises the bar in the plus-size segment of the fashion industry. With transitional separates and flowing, classy ensembles, Beautiful U is meant to transform the way the market looks at full-figured women. “I wanted to create cute looks that fit a woman’s true silhouette,” Ms. Freeman says, “I want to make women look and feel beautiful, regardless of their size.” Sharan Nixon, presenter of Baltimore Fashion Week, provided expert support to Ms. Freeman throughout the night, to help her pull everything together backstage. A tremendous job was done with make-up and hair for Melba Moore and Ms. Freeman provided by Masters Of The Brush, Vanessa Lee, Seto McCoy and Reginald.
Numerous sponsors came together to make the show a spectacular success, including Chocolate Sexx by Nikki Lukes, PBZ Executive Transportation, activist Rev Al Sharpton’s daughter, Ashley Sharpton and STYLAGA, Shylise Simpson Presenter of the 3rd Female Hip Hop Honor Awards, Curvy Chick Fitness, on behalf of MNS Media Group, Patricia Freeman, Runway The Real Way, and Yotel NYC are deeply grateful for their support. Numerous volunteers also gave tirelessly of their time to make the show a reality. As the solstice arrived overhead, marking the seasonal change, Beautiful U was making new beginnings on Earth, changing the fashion game in a big, ‘plus-sized’ way!
