Charity Lynette owner of Curvy Chick Fitness releases “American Heart Month” article

“The Heart Of The Matter”

by Charity Lynette of Curvy Chick Fitness…
Dedicated to American Heart Month

How many of us think about our purpose on a daily basis, you know the reason why you were created? Or the reason why you were given certain talents and characteristics? Even better how you can take your trials and tribulations and turn that into your purpose. I believe that my purpose is to help people to understand health and fitness, as a passion of mine I hardly consider it work. I am an advocate of health and am proud.

February is national heart month so I want to address this topic that is an epidemic in our community. I have a personal vendetta against heart disease it was one of several diseases that took my mothers life at the age of 47. Heart disease, which can also be called cardiovascular or coronary heart disease, is a simple term used to describe several problems related to plaque buildup in the walls of the arteries, or atherosclerosis. As the plaque builds up, the arteries narrow, making it more difficult for blood to flow and creating a risk for heart attack or stroke. With a fear of it being hereditary I went through a 80 lb weight loss myself and have made it my mission to spread knowledge and awareness about health related issues that are the cause of poor eating habits and lack of exercise.

There are quite a few symptoms for heart disease but what some people don’t know is that they are slightly different in women. Women can experience a heart attack without the pressure on their chest unlike men. Nieca Goldberg, M.D., medical director for the Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health at NYU’s Langone Medical Center and an American Heart Association volunteer says that woman may experience shortness of breath, pressure or pain in the lower chest or upper abdomen, dizziness, fainting, upper back pressure or extreme fatigue. Even though heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, women often chalk up the symptoms to less life-threatening conditions like acid reflux, the flu or normal aging. A heart attack strikes someone about every 34 seconds. It occurs when the blood flow that brings oxygen to the heart muscle is severely reduced or cut off completely. This happens because the arteries that supply the heart with blood can slowly narrow from a buildup of fat. Ladies please don’t disregard any symptoms that you have that are out of the ordinary. Listen to your body it will tell you when something is wrong.

This disease and what happened to my mother is my purpose of creating Curvy Chick Fitness, I want women to be vibrant, happy, and healthy and it starts with health and fitness. There needs to be awareness in women’s health our issues and symptoms are different than a man even though the remedy and prevention methods are very similar. Good health affects your life in so many ways you feel better, look better, and more alert to what is going on in your life mentally, physically, and emotionally. If you can’t do it alone then hire someone. People take better care of their cars and homes with all these upgrades and remodeling but then treat their body like crap it doesn’t measure up. Invest in a nutritionist and a trainer if you feel that you have the will power to do it on your own then fine do that. Do your research and find what works best for you. It’s your life take control and discover your purpose.

DSC_9998_zpscbd62c84 For those that would like some advice on heart healthy exercise tips:

•Stretching the arms and legs before and after exercising helps prepare the muscles for activity and helps prevent injury and muscle strain. Regular stretching also increases your range of motion and flexibility.

•Cardiovascular or aerobic activity strengthens the heart and lungs and improves the body’s ability to use oxygen. Aerobic exercise has the most benefits for your heart. Over time, aerobic exercise can help decrease your heart rate and blood pressure at rest and improve your breathing.

•Strengthening, repeated muscle contractions (tightening) until the muscle becomes tired; for people with heart failure, many strengthening exercises are not recommended. Some examples of Aerobic Exercises are walking, jogging, jumping rope, bicycling, skating and low-impact aerobics or water aerobics.

I hope this article finds you in good health if not then I hope it helps get you there.

“Art + Fashion= HipHop” NYC Fashion Week Press Day

As Fashion Week began in New York City on Thursday, all eyes were on the many runways around town, where designers showcased their Fall 2013 collections. Fashion is rightly seen as an art form by those who create the clothes we wear, and at the Andre Zarre Gallery in Manhattan’s Chelsea section, “paintless collagist” Beata Drozd brought the concepts of art and fashion together.

‘Paintless Collagist’ Beata Drozd Displays Astonishing Works

Swizz Beatz by BEATA DROZD

By Nathan James

In a stunning exhibit of her work, Drozd displayed canvasses she created without using a single drop of paint. ”I wanted to create something different,” Drozd says, “and each piece was made using magazines and a little fabric for texture.” Her artwork uses shredded pages from periodicals such as Vogue and Vanity Fair to make abstract portraits, as well as renderings of contemporary celebrities such as hip-hop superstar Jay-Z and the late vocalist Aaliyah.

Born in Gdansk, Poland, Drozd studied at St. Martin School of Art And Design, and the Ecole Superioure des Arts Decoratifs. Migrating to New York City, she was commissioned to do paintings for Cipriani’s Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, and the famous Friars Club. Her artistic vision then turned to collage, “reclaiming paper of fashion, gossip, and entertainment magazines”.

Fashion and popular culture are a fascination for Drozd, whose depictions of Maggio Cipriani, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, hip-hop mogul Damon Dash, Vogue Editor-At-Large Andre Leon Talley, and iconic pop diva Madonna, utilize subtle shading and color tones to give each piece added impact. Drozd cites Chuck Close, Wancheghe Mutu, Elizabeth Peyton, and Mickalene Thomas as some oif her artistic influences, and she says her goal is to further the merging of fashion and art. ”I’ve been knock, knock, knocking on [Vogue Editor-In-Chief] Anna Wintour’s door,” she says with a smile.

“It takes discipline and patience,” to create each piece, Drizd allows, but wouldn’t elaborate on how long it takes to complete them. Thursday’s exhibit was the latest in a series of distinguished showings for the artists, whose work has been displayed at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA), Washington, DC’s Fraser Gallery, and in Warsaw’s National Opera, under the patronage of the President Of Poland. Drozd lives in New York City, where she continues to follow her craft.
